Broxbourne Borough 0 Leverstock Green 2

LEVY Green bounced back to form with a deserved win at Broxbourne Borough on Saturday.

Green had lost their previous four league games, but goals from Dan Griggs and Ben Butler either side of half-time lifted the gloom which had been hanging over Pancake Lane in recent weeks.

And Levy manager Steve Heath admitted he was relieved to see his side put an end to their dismal run.

“To be honest there’s only so many times I could keep saying we had been unlucky so I’m really pleased we got the win,” said Heath.

“I had been saying that when we got a few players back we would be fine, and we looked like a different team on Saturday. All of a sudden we looked like our old selves again.

“A week is a very long time in football, and if we could get a couple of good results, all of a sudden we would be back in the mix for a top-six finish.”

Levy were once again boosted by the inclusion of talisman Louis Austin in the starting XI at Broxbourne, and the striker came close to opening the deadlock early on.

And it did not take long for Levy to take the lead as Griggs struck in the ninth minute.

Bekim Culaj’s cross found its way to Griggs, and the midfielder had no problem in lashing the ball home from 10 yards.

Green almost doubled their lead soon afterwards as Culaj’s cross was deflected onto the crossbar by a Broxbourne defender, while the hosts struck the bar at the other end four minutes before half-time through Junior Adeoye.

Griggs should have added a second goal shortly after the restart as he pulled an effort wide from a good position, but the Green lead was doubled through Butler’s penalty.

Livewire Austin was tripped in the area, and Butler stepped up to dispatch the resulting penalty to put Levy 2-0 ahead.

The visitors had chances to make it 3-0 late on in the game, but Heath’s side were happy to come away with the solid 2-0 win.

The result takes Green back up above Berkhamsted into eighth in the MSSML Premier Division table.
