LEVY Green’s FA Vase chances rest on a replay after Steve Heath’s side were held to a 0-0 home draw in Saturday’s tie.
The winners of the replay will travel to Long Buckby in the next round of the competition.
Despite the lack of goals in Saturday’s game at Pancake Lane, it was an exciting affair with plenty of chances at either end.
Green looked much sharper than they had in recent weeks and dominated proceedings during normal time, before Enfield turned the screw in the added period.
“It was possibly one of the best nil-nils you will ever see to be honest,” said Levy manager Steve Heath. “We should have won it in 90 minutes but then we were lucky not to lose in extra-time.”
Green were able to introduce Max Farrelly, Ben Butler and Kevin Gallen back into the starting line-up, and Butler had Green’s first effort on goal – his shot saved by Enfield keeper James May.
Steve Hatch was then denied by another stop from May, and Lee Benmore came close twice at the other end.
Both sides continued to press until half-time, and Butler came close to sliding home Gallen’s cross, before Ashley Taylor-Forbes saw his effort tipped onto the bar by Green keeper Carl Tasker.
Green had the better of the play after the break and Gallen and Farrelly both saw efforts cleared off the line.
Neither team could force a breakthrough, though, and the game moved into extra-time.
Enfield had the best chance to snatch a late victory, but Bradley Drisdale could not convert when put through on goal with one minute remaining.
“The pleasing thing was that the players put in a good performance,” said Heath.
“We had some players back and looked more like a team.
“The game was there for us to win.”
Heath said he expects another tough game in the replay but believed his side could finish the job.
