Hemel Town 1
 Cambridge City 0

High-flying Hemel Town opened up a five-point gap at the top of the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division as they battled to a deserved win over Cambridge City.

The Tudors have now won five of their last six games in all competitions and saw off Cambridge with a second half strike from Matt Nolan.

Hemel were good value for the victory and dominated the opening exchanges.

Nolan and man of the match Jordan Parkes both came close early on, but City keeper Zac Barrett was largely untroubled in the first 35 minutes.

Cambridge’s best effort came shortly after half-time when Luke Allen wasted a good opportunity, before Hemel sub Alex Campana rattled the post at the other end.

Hemel were dominating proceedings and finally got the goal that their play deserved when Nolan broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute.

A trademark cross-field ball from Tudors right-back Danny May reached Nolan in the box and he calmly chested the ball down before volleying home to put his side 1-0 up.

James Brighton almost snatched a point for the visitors with three minutes left to play, but his free-kick rattled back off the bar to ensure the Tudors took the spoils.
