DOZENS of pupils came face-to-face with a wind turbine for Global Wind Day last Friday.
Year 1 and 2 pupils from Redbourn Infant and Nursery School visited the headquarters of Renewable Energy Services (RES) in Kings Langley, and the company’s on-site wind turbine, for the special day to celebrate the power of wind energy.
The children, joined in the morning by MP Mike Penning, had sessions teaching them about renewable energy technologies, including wind power, and were given a tour around the offices.
Year 1 teacher Mandie Bentley said: “The children really enjoyed the visit and learnt so much.
“The school has a very active eco-council and does a lot of recycling. I think the children thought it was lovely to see the wind turbine and didn’t realise how big they are up close.”
The UK is the windiest country in Europe with more than 300 wind farms powering almost four million homes.
