Works to end XC weather woes?

SINCE the XC centre opened last year, wet weather has frequently been a problem with rain water flooding parts of the skating area.

But plans have been submitted to clad the front of the sports complex to help fend off the effects of the UK’s unpredictable weather.

One side of the skate park is exposed to the elements and regularly has to shut as a result of bad weather.

Bosses at the centre in Jarman Park, Hemel Hempstead, have previously commented on the skate park’s frequent closures, stating that it was necessary in the interest of safety.

Further to this, in answer to complaints, they said that a team of architects and builders was working to find a long term solution to the problem.

The centre, run by Sportspace, contains a number of facilities including the skate park, climbing walls, and an artificial cave network for potholing.

It cost £5m and opened in July last year.

Elise Hyslop from Sportspace said: “We have submitted a planning application to clad the front of the building.

“If approved we hope work would start around early September.

“By starting then we hope to prevent any disruptions during the school summer holidays.”

The application submitted to the borough council details the introduction of shutters, and mechanical ventilation to the open spaces.
