FROM the team that produced last year’s hit The Vicar of Dibley comes another stage production based on a comedy classic of the small screen – Tring Festival Company is proud to present Blackadder Goes Forth at the Court Theatre next week.
Set in the trenches of France during the First World War the story follows the last survivor of an inglorious dynasty, Captain Edmund Blackadder, doing his utmost to get out of the trenches any way he can.
Regulars at the Court will recognise many cast names – Wayne McLaughlin who appeared last year in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice stars as Captain Blackadder while Colin Tovee, who played Buttons in the 2011 pantomime production of Cinderella, is Baldrick.
The team also welcomes newcomer Freddie Clark – a sixth form student from Berkhamsted School who takes on the role of Lieutenant the Honourable George Colthurst St Barleigh, originally played by Hugh Laurie in the hit television series.
Adapter Ian Gower said: “The set design and build team have gone to great lengths to recreate the trenches of World War One on stage and in particular thanks must go to our props and costumes teams who have excelled themselves in bringing this production to life.
“The whole team has worked extremely hard and is now looking forward to presenting the production to an audience.
“However the pain and suffering of those who fought in World War One has not been forgotten and while this production like the original TV series is hilariously funny it is also markedly poignant about the utter futility of war.”
So don’t miss out, make a cunning plan and book your tickets early.
Blackadder Goes Forth, a stage play by Paul Carpenter and Ian Gower, based on the original TV series by Richard Curtis and Ben Elton, will be at the Court Theatre in Tring from Tuesday, May 15 to Saturday, May 19 at 8pm with an additional matinee performance on the Saturday at 2.30pm.
