THE big hearted mum of a disabled son has spoken of her surprise at finding film crews in her home.

Elaine Precious, 51, of Swing Gate Lane, Berkhamsted, was nominated for a television home makeover by work colleague Liz King from Dacorum Mencap.

While the unsuspecting mum was enjoying a spa day last Wednesday, film crews descended on her home to transform two bedrooms and a bathroom. The Channel 4 programme is due to air later this month.

Elaine said: “I was shocked. My home looks amazing now.”

The mum-of-four helped set up the Cri du Chat Syndrome Support Group – a charity helping those affected by the rare learning disability – 20 years ago.

Her son Sam has the condition, which means, at the age of 21, he cannot talk, feed or dress himself.

But Elaine said: “He’s the happiest person I know.

“People with learning difficulties can teach us so much, because they appreciate the small things in life that we take for granted.”
