DACORUM is a great place to live – it’s official.

The borough has been ranked among the top 50 most desirable places to live in the UK in a quality of life survey.

Dacorum comes 37th in the sixth annual Halifax Quality of Life Survey, which tracks where living standards are the highest.

The scores are worked out by looking at things like local house prices, weekly earnings, health, population, crime rates, exam results, traffic and even the weather.

Under the survey all 405 local authority districts are examined and data is collected from a range of sources including the Office for National Statistics, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Met Office, the Department for Transport, Department of Children, Schools and Families, the Department of Energy and Climate Change, the Welsh Assembly, Northern Ireland Government and the Scottish Executive.

Councillor Andrew Williams, leader of Dacorum Borough Council, said: “I’m really proud of Dacorum and it’s great that we’ve made the top 50.

“There are always things to improve on, of course there are, but if you look around you and take in everything Dacorum has to offer, it truly is a great place to live.”

Other nearby areas that ranked in the top 50 were St Albans, which came in at number seven, East Herts came in at number 13, while North Herts bagged number 20, closely followed by Hertsmere at 21.
