A CONVOY of taxis brought a town centre to a standstill as drivers protested about cabs they believe are touting for business illegally.
About 85 cars packed the area outside Hemel Hempstead’s Civic Centre when drivers parked up to pose for a photograph with a banner that read No To Illegal Taxi Touting in Dacorum.
The convoy travelled from Gadebridge Park and followed a route along Leighton Buzzard Road and around the Magic Roundabout.
Taxi drivers from across Dacorum wanted to raise awareness about an ongoing dispute with drivers from outside of the borough doing business here.
Dacorum Borough Council licensing officer Kathryn Ashton said: “We are investigating a potential legal case at the moment.
“We have sent the information to our legal department and it could be a few weeks before anything happens.
“It would be based on case law, so it would be down to interpretation and will be for the courts to decide but we consider what they are doing to be illegal.”
