A SPECIAL campaign has been launched by police in the run-up to Christmas to help combat drink and drug driving.
Across the county the campaign, which was launched on Thursday and is running until January 1, aims to drive home the consequences of getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.
Anyone involved in a road collision attended by police will be breathalised, and officers will stop and check anyone they suspect of committing a driving offence as part of their usual patrols.
Chief Insp Donna Pierce from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Strategic Unit said: “This is an issue we take very seriously.
“Last year’s campaign saw an increase in those arrested for driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs.
“Anyone tempted to do so this year will be targeted by officers in the same way.
“Never be tempted to take the chance that you’re under the legal limit.
“Any amount of alcohol affects your reactions, and not only could you ruin your Christmas, lose your license and even your job, you could seriously injure or kill yourself, someone close to you or somebody else’s loved one.”
