Six years since disaster and road is still closed

A ROAD closed because of the Buncefield blast six years ago remains shut because of a row over who should pay for repair work.

Cherry Tree Lane has been fenced off where it runs between Buncefield Lane and Green Lane because roads chiefs say it is not safe.

Herts Highways says resurfacing and drainage work costing hundreds of thousands of pounds is needed and the oil companies responsible for the 2005 disaster should foot the bill.

Spokesman Simon Hoggett said: “There is a desire to reopen it but it’s still dependent on sorting out who will pay for the repairs.”
