Levy Green
Hatfield Town 1 Leverstock Green 0
LEVY Green’s disappointing form continued as they were beaten at struggling Hatfield Town on Saturday.
It was a poor performance from Green, who were wasteful in possession and lacked quality in the final third.
Despite the lacklustre display, Levy could have salvaged a point against the league’s bottom side late on, but Lee Bircham’s penalty hit the post, before Lewis Pritchard saw his effort cannon back off the bar.
“We didn’t turn up in the first half to be honest and they were arguably good value for the 1-0 lead,” said Green manager Steve Heath.
“We had a bit of a go in the second half but we are missing a bit of quality.
“Our passing game wasn’t very good and the luck isn’t really going our way. That’s what tends to happen when you aren’t playing well.”
After a scrappy opening to the game, Hatfield took the lead in the 36th minute as Trevor Golder curled home a free-kick when Dan Griggs was adjudged to have handled the ball.
Levy looked for an equaliser as the half drew to a close, but Ricco Biggi saw his header well-saved, before Junior Owusu-Akonor – making his debut for the club – headed narrowly wide.
Green keeper Gareth Tinsley was forced into action early in the second half, before Owusu-Akonor overran the ball when through on goal.
Heath made a tactical switch – changing to three at the back – and seven minutes from time it looked as though Green were going to salvage a point from the game.
Griggs was brought down in the area, but Bircham could only direct his penalty kick onto the post.
There was still time for Green to go close again, as Pritchard’s hooked volley bounced back off the bar, but it was not to be for Levy who will want to forget about the performance as quickly as possible.
“We only have ourselves to blame,” said Heath. “Our defensive record isn’t that bad but we aren’t scoring enough goals.
“I’m looking for a bit more from the players and we need to get some more positives from the game than we are getting at present.”
