Holmer Green 2 Tring Athletic 1
Tring Athletic slipped to a disappointing defeat to bottom club Holmer Green on Saturday.
Holmer went into the game with no wins from their opening nine home league games, but earned the three points with two first half goals.
Athletic had the better of the early exchanges but it was the home side who opened the scoring in the 16th minute against the run of play.
A long ball was played out of defence to Eliot Derby who volleyed home past Mike Underwood.
Athletic hit back, though, and equalised through Stewart King, who ran from inside his own half before unleashing a shot into the far corner.
Having equalised, Athletic should have taken the lead just two minutes later as Jack Sunderland delivered an excellent cross, but Vinnie Iannnone headed over the bar.
It was Holmer who went on to regain the lead, however, with another goal against the run of play.
Athletic were unable to clear the danger from a corner, and the ball fell to Dean Allen to score from close range in stoppage time.
Chances were limited after the break – with Stewart King firing narrowly over in a rare Tring forray forward – and Green held on confortable to take the three points.
