Celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal is in Tring today, where he will make edible alcoholic snow for his new TV show.

Film crews were in The Akeman to film cosy, fireside shots of the inventive cook – whose signature dishes include snail porridge, bacon and egg ice cream and parsnip cereal.

Speaking to the Gazette from the restaurant pub, he said: “We are just doing some little shots here for the final part of my series.

“We just wanted a nice, pretty set up. We are now going to a minus 135 degrees C freezer to try and make alcoholic edible snow. It’s going to be very cold.”

The experiment, taking place at nearby Champneys Health Spa, will form part of his new show Heston’s Fantastical Food. The series begins on Tuesday, November 6.

Other TV celebrities who have been filmed in The Akeman include Kirstie Allsopp, who dropped in for a drink with two people looking for a home on Location Location Location.

Head chef Nick Mason, 26, has been in the trade for 12 years and was delighted to meet Heston.

He said: “It was brilliant. It’s not very often such a successful chef comes into your restaurant. I am a big fan of his and have read all of his books.

“They chose to film here, because the design of the pub is pretty, it has a brilliant atmosphere and it’s always busy. Plus we have a great reputation.”

Heston Blumenthal owns The Fat Duck, a three-Michelin-starred restaurant in Bray, Berkshire.

It has been voted best restaurant in the UK and has received a perfect score of 10 out of 10 every year since 2007 by The Good Food Guide.
