Hatch End Hawks 3 Putney 20
Hatch End Hawks met their biggest challenge yet this season as they faced a strong Putney team packed full of national and international lacrosse players.
Putney took early possession and fed the ball well around their attacking end.
However, a good warm up and team talk had prepared the Hawks’ defence well and they stuck tight, challenging the ball and piling on the pressure.
Putney were forced to work harder than expected and took a good 10 minutes to eventually find the back of the net.
Putney continued to dominate the first half and, despite several excellent turnovers in the Hawks defence, scoring opportunities were few and far between.
The second half produced much of the same – the Hawks defence continued to work tirelessly and played some of their best lacrosse this season.
Goalkeeper Natalie Balfe made some fantastic saves but the speed and accuracy of the Putney shots was a difficult challenge.
Becky Singleton, Hawks vice-captain said: “We always knew it would be a difficult match against the league leaders but our defence worked tirelessly throughout, making Putney work hard for every goal,”
