Watford Ladies 1 Manchester City Ladies 1
A first half Sarah Wiltshire strike was not enough to hand Watford victory in a battling 1-1 draw with a dogged Manchester City side.
Wiltshire’s goal came after 19 minutes following a guided header from striker Jo Wilson, allowing the Welsh international to burst into the box and slot past City keeper Danielle Brown.
However, a stinging drive from City’s Sarah Danby levelled the match on 64 minutes after she created space for herself and unleashed a vicious left-footed effort past Watford keeper Lauren Davey from 20 yards.
Heavy overnight rain created difficult conditions under-foot, but the Berkhamsted pitch held up well and saw both teams looking to pass along the ground.
Wiltshire’s composed finish was arguably the first real chance created by either side and made it three goals in two games for the attacking midfielder, who notched a double against Colchester United last week.
It was City that came out of the traps quicker in the second half, and they levelled things up with just over 25 minutes left to play.
Both sides had chances to win the game late on, but with no further goals the contest ended all square.
Watford manager John Salomon said: “I was pleased with the way we restricted them, and to come away with a point against a very good side is another good result.”
