Discount supermarket chain Aldi has put in an application to planning bosses for a new store in Hemel Hempstead.
It confirms rumours earlier this year that store bosses had their sights set on the former MFI site in Redbourn Road, Hemel Hempstead.
The furniture retailer closed its base in 2008 and since then the building has fallen into a state of disrepair.
In June this year an outline application for a ‘deep-discounted’ food store was given the green light by planning chiefs at Dacorum Borough Council.
Now Aldi has submitted a full application, which has just been made public.
Nearby businesses and householders in Corner Farm Place are being asked for their views on the proposal.
A spokesman for Aldi said it would not be appropriate to comment at this time.
