Bedfont Sports 0 Tring Athletic 1
Tring progressed to the next round of FA Cup with a hard-fought win over Combined Counties League outfit Bedfont Sports in the first preliminary round of the competition.
Connor Waite bagged the goal for Tring, and the club will now go on to face Ashford Town away in the next round.
Bedfont created some sustained early pressure, but it was Athletic who took the lead against the run of play in the 13th minute.
Matt Jarvis found Reon Thomas down the left wing, and he held the ball up well before beating his marker and crossing for Waite to fire into the net.
Both teams created chances as the first half came to an end, but it was Tring who were looking the more threatening.
And the second period started in a similar fashion, with Thomas looking sharp up front for Athletic, while the home side were being restricted mainly to speculative, long range efforts.
A good Tring move saw Dave Whicker put Tony Fields in down the right and his cross found Thomas, who who forced an impressive save from the Bedfont keeper.
As the home side continued to shoot from distance, Tring keeper Mike Underwood easily collected the ball and fired up field, allowing substitute Andy Humphreys to slot home, only to see his effort ruled out for offside.
