THE top 10 wacky and worst excuses for not paying the TV licence fee over the last year have been revealed.
A total of 220 people have been caught watching TV without a licence in Hemel Hempstead in the eight months since the beginning of the year.
Now TV Licensing has released the 10 most outlandish excuses given by people for not paying their licence fee.
Topping the list is an excuse given by one culprit who claimed that they hadn’t received their mail since having a fling with the postman.
Other excuses in the top 10 include one person claiming they would have to sell their TV to pay for their licence. A another dodger claimed they couldn’t leave the house to settle the debt because they were allergic to the sun.
TV Licensing spokesperson Pauline Gillingham said: “Some evaders are very inventive with their excuses which can be quite entertaining. But the point is that watching or recording live TV without a licence is against the law.
“In fairness to the honest majority of people who pay the fee, we will prosecute those who try to avoid it.”
