A FARMER who allowed more than 130,000 chickens to be illegally slaughtered on his farm in appalling conditions was fined £62,000 today (Thursday) in court.
Customers killed the birds for Halal meat at Game Farm, off Shantock Lane, in Bovingdon.
Robert Skerry, 54, pleaded guilty to two charges of failing to comply with legislation.
Carcases were left in the open air and bloody water was discharged into a stream before a police officer discovered the operation on May 4, 2010.
At the time there was blood on the floor and between 50 and 100 dead chickens piled in the open.
Skerry was sentenced following successful prosecution by Dacorum Borough Council’s environmental health team.
