A GROUP of golfers put in a marathon effort as they played four rounds at Shendish Manor in one day to raise money for charity.

Antony Monger, Simon Johnson, Chris Carr and Jon Barkworth – who all work at The Grass Roots Group in Tring – tackled the 72-holes to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Anthony said: “We turned down The Grove to play at Shendish because they were so welcoming.

“They were awesome through the planning phase and just so friendly on the day too. The members were welcoming and encouraging and greeted us with a round of applause and a round of drinks.

“All in all it’s one of the proudest days of my life and it was do-able thanks to fantastic support from our colleagues and friends who sponsored us, The Grove who donated a prize for auction, but, most importantly, Shendish Manor and my colleagues and golfing buddies, Chris, Jon and Simon.

“It was a massive team effort and a day that will live with me forever.

“A final note should go to Macmillan, whose nurses are angels to cancer sufferers every day.

“I and the other team members have close experience of their work, and ultimately this is our way of saying thanks.”
