BUILDING on the foundations of a string of successful shows, the Abbots Langley Gilbert and Sullivan Society is now gearing up for its summer show as part of the village’s Festival of the Arts.

Entitled The Music of Life, the show runs from Wednesday, June 20 to Saturday, June 23 and will feature a range of songs from musicals.

Songs from shows such as Wicked, I Love You Because, Fiddler On The Roof and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, will feature in the performance, which aims to depict the various milestones encountered on life’s journey from childhood to old age.

The company’s core membership comprises residents from around the area including the Langleys, Hemel Hempstead and Watford. They are aged from just nine months up to 84 years old and have spent the last four months preparing under the direction of respected local musician Martin Smith.

This work has included preparing for solos, duets, ensembles and full choruses through a series of group workshops and one-to-one rehearsal sessions. A live band will be providing music for the performance.

Society member Rebecca Budd said: “In the current economic climate, local groups, which are integral to the fabric of our community, need your support more than ever. But beyond that, they deserve it.

“By turns reflective and humorous, The Music of Life is a cathartic and engaging piece of entertainment.

“You are guaranteed to return home tapping your fingers and humming some forgotten melody, after all, ‘the rhythm of life is a powerful beat’!

“It’s only a stone’s throw away and costs less than a round of drinks so, please, come and see for yourself!”

The Music of Life takes place at the Henderson Hall, High Street, Abbots Langley from Wednesday ,June 20 to Saturday, June 23, with evening performances at 7.45pm. A Saturday matinée will be performed at 2.30pm.

Tickets are available from the box office by calling 01923 676120. All tickets are £10
