A FUN day that has gone from strength to strength since being launched in 2008 has got a charity on-board for this year’s fundraiser.

The Apsley Lock Fun Day has grown too big for the two part-time volunteers from the Apsley Lock Residents Association that put the event together so they have roped in the help of ReachOut Plus.

It means that Debbie Gilbert - the fundraising and marketing manager for the good cause - which runs boat trips for young people and those with disabilities, can use her contacts to put on an even bigger and better day.

Debbie said: “I was very impressed with what has been achieved in previous years. I couldn’t believe the fun day was organised by two people in their spare time.”

Through her contacts Debbie has managed to sign up Watford Football Club, Harry the Hornet and Vibe FM for the event on Sunday, September 9.

It is also a chance for ReachOut Plus, with its boats based on the Grand Union Canal at Nash Mills, to let more people know about what they do.

“Even though ReachOut has been going for something like 30 years it is still a cause not a lot of people know about,” said Debbie.

Other local charities are invited to host stalls at the event. Email Debbie at fundraising@reachoutplus.org.
