Little Gaddesden Drama Club members will stage their spring production – Humble Boy by Charlotte Jones – at the Village Hall in Little Gaddesden for three nights only from Thursday, May 24.
This warm and touching comedy, which was first performed on the Cottesloe stage of the Royal National Theatre in 2001 and won the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for best new play as well as two Olivier Awards, is directed by Patsy Blackmore and Paul Woods.
The play’s protagonist, a bumbling Cambridge astrophysicist and cricket enthusiast called Felix Humble, returns to the family home following the sudden death of his father.
His difficult and demanding mother Flora is determined to make a fresh start with brash family friend George.
Secrets come tumbling out as Felix tries to come to terms with the past and what is yet to come.
Director Patsy Blackmore said: “Love, lust and life. These words I think sum up Humble Boy by Charlotte Jones.
“It is both funny and sad. A comedy about broken vows, failed hopes and a dysfunctional family, and bees – so important in our world today – are never far away.”
LGDC are delighted that Clare O’Connell, the renowned Berkhamsted-based cellist and artistic administrator of distinguished ensemble Chroma, has recorded some music especially composed for the production by Dominic Shovelton.
LGDC’s production of Charlotte Jones’ Humble Boy will be at the Village Hall, Little Gaddesden from Thursday, May 24 to Saturday, May 26 at 8pm – doors and licensed bar open at 7.15pm.
