NEW participants took part in the largest training course run so far for volunteers for the Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Four more volunteers from the district covering Dacorum and St Albans took part in a four-day special training course with 26 other volunteers from across the county.

This brings the total number of community fire safety volunteers covering Dacorum up to 21.

Their role is to raise awareness of fire safety and help roll out new initiatives.

Chief Fire Officer Roy Wilsher said: “Our volunteers work across the whole county making a valuable contribution to their local community.

“Involving local people in our work has proved to be an effective way of getting important safety information into the heart of our community, with volunteers helping at public events, advising local people about fire safety.

“I am extremely grateful to all of our volunteers who give up their own time to make Hertfordshire an ever safer place.”

More volunteers are always being looked for however.

Anyone wanting to find out more, or apply, should visit www.hertsdirect.org and search ‘Fire volunteers’.

Alternatively, Herts Fire and Rescue Service outreach and volunteer manager Roy Aldwin can be contacted at roy.aldwin@hertscc.gov.uk or on 07801 703965.
