AFTER successfully gaining £2500 from the Berkhamsted Youth Centre BID process last year, Berkhamsted Bowls Club have been spending the money on new equipment to try and attract younger players into the game.
Having purchased all-new colourful woods and targets, the Berkhamsted-based club hope to project a more modern image of the game and build on the success of last year when they achieved the largest uptake of new members in Hertfordshire.
“We have enlisted over 48 new members in the last two years and that’s fantastic,” said club recruitment officer Kevin Clarke. “What we now need to do is fire the imagination of the young and create a youth section that could make the club the envy of everyone in the county.
“We intend a strong marketing campaign this again year and hope we get plenty of people wanting to have a go including the younger members of the community.”
The club will be hosting a public open day on Sunday, April 22 and will also be offering free taster sessions on Tuesday and Thursdays in May, between 2pm and 4pm.
