A new clerk is needed to serve Berkhamsted Town Council.
Former policeman Alan Kemp, 55, has done the job since 2010 but his last day is on Monday, April 30.
He said: “It has been a very challenging role, but rewarding.”
To apply for his role, print off the form on website www.berkhamsted.gov.uk and return it the address on it by noon on Tuesday, April 10.
It requires 30 hours of work per weeks and pays between £32,800 and £35,430 pro rata.
Councillor Ron Cowie said: “It’s unlikely that we will be able to find someone by the end of April, I must admit.”
Mr Kemp, of Wigginton, will now set up his own business in gardening and project managing the building of houses, aiming to help the elderly in particular.
