A GROWING martial arts club is the latest group to put itself forward for a chance to bag £1,000 in funding.

Head coach at Hemel Martial Arts Denniston Sutherland, pictured, is hoping his entry will pack a punch with judges behind the Community Sports Awards scheme.

The club, based in Fensomes Alley, Hemel Hempstead, has members ranging from six to 55 years old.

The kids’ club tackles issues like bullying, teaching youngsters to walk with their heads held high and vital defence skills to protect themselves.

Denniston said: “It’s about self-improvement and self-defence. I won’t create another bully.” To find out more visit www.hemelmartialarts.com or search Hemel Martial Arts on Facebook.

l We’ve teamed up with the Riverside Shopping Centre for the competition.

Whether you’re a major player on the sports scene or just getting started, you could win £1,000, courtesy of the shopping centre.
