Hemel Hempstead Town Cricket Club will be able to improve their facilities before the start of the new cricket season thanks to support from a county councillor.

Councillor Steve Holmes – Hemel Hempstead Town Division – allocated £1000 from his locality budget to help pay for repairs to and the purchase of sight screens for the club.

Herts League matches commence on Saturday, May 5, while the first XI will begin their HCPL League campaign with an away fixture at Stevenage on Saturday, May 12.

Mr Holmes said: “The club provides an opportunity for the local community to play and enjoy cricket, so ensuring everyone’s safety is paramount.

“The screens assist with proper sighting of cricket balls and will benefit our members, visiting teams and spectators. I am pleased to help with a contribution to improve the facilities.”

A total of £10,000 is available to each of the 77 members of Hertfordshire County Council to spend on community projects in their area.

Locality budgets were launched in July 2009, with funding to be used for worthy social, economic or environmental causes in Herts.
