Welwyn Garden City 1 Kings Langley 0

KINGS Langley maintained their good recent form as they ground out a win at Welwyn Garden City.

It was apparent in the first few minutes that Kings had one eye on Wednesday night’s Herts Senior Centenary Trophy final, as hosts Welwyn created good goalscoring chances for Ade Osobu and Tony Gotabed.

The visitors gradually settled, though, and Steve Noonan’s header come close before Craig Lynskey saw a goal disallowed after a foul by Jimmy Armstrong in the build-up.

The vital goal arrived for Kings a minute before half-time, when Chris Mason’s cross found Arturas Simakovas, whose powerful shot was deflected past City keeper Chris Adams.

The second half continued the game’s disjointed feel, as a good chance went begging for City and Adams saved well from both Armstrong and Lynskey.

Welwyn were reduced to 10 men after a petulant slap on Nathan Pooley, before Osobu netted in the last minute when offside, but overall the game was a somewhat drab affair.

Kings, however, were pleased to end the game injury-free, with three points and another clean sheet.

The team’s attention now turns to Wednesday’s final, where they face Division One table-toppers London Colney at the Herts FA County Ground in Letchworth.
