Gran’s plea for cash to help boy, 9, learn to walk

A PENSIONER has put £5,000 of her own money towards the £45,000 treatment that could cure her grandson of a crippling disability.

Nine-year-old Tom Sargent has had spastic diplegia – a type of cerebral palsy – all of his life.

He can walk just a few steps using a walking frame, but becomes cross-legged and has to spend most of his time in a wheelchair.

Gran Beverley Dale, 72, of Shootersway Lane, Berkhamsted, said: “He has to be lifted everywhere and weighs nearly five stone now.

“His dad Chris, my son, spends half of his time caring for Tom. It’s not easy.”
