BEER enthusiasts have 19 blissful days to indulge in which to oil their elbows and enjoy 40 cask-conditioned beers from across the world during a festival being hosted by two local watering holes – The Crown in Berkhamsted and at The Full House in Hemel Hempstead’s Marlowes.

Both pubs are part of the giant JD Wetherspoon chain, which has a reputation for bargain beer and food but is also known by ale aficionados for the regular range of real ales on offer.

For its annual beer festival, the Wetherspoon buyers have been trawling brewers in Russia, South Africa, Norway, America and Belgium and the two popular boozers will also serve beers from across the UK.

How about trying one of the speciality beers on offer? Does honey, loganberry, grapefruit, treacle or chocolate appeal? All will be available, as well as beers brewed exclusively for the pubs.

There will also be up to ten traditional ciders including Fanny’s Bramble, The Governor and Boxing Dog.

Manager of The Crown Simon Adamson said: “The festival will give people the opportunity to enjoy a superb selection of UK and international beers.

Many of the beers on offer have not been available in the pub beforehand and I am looking forward to serving them.”

The festival runs from today to Sunday, April 1 with all beers priced from £2.20 to £2.35 a pint.
