A TWO week tidy up along the A41 will draw to a close this Friday with workers collecting tonnes of rubbish, much of which has been tossed from vehicle windows.

Dacorum Borough Council’s Clean, Safe and Green team started litter picking along the bypass on Monday, February 20.

By yesterday, the team of seven workers with two vans had collected around 8.5 tonnes of rubbish.

The man heading up the blitz operation has appealed to drivers to take their rubbish home instead of leaving it by the roadside.

Clean, Safe and Green leader Simon Coultas said: “We have noticed an increase in litter along the A41 this winter.

“Litter is an eyesore and it can become a serious hazard to road users and wildlife. It is also an offence to litter and you could be fined.

“We urge drivers to help keep our roads clean and safe, by taking their litter home with them or putting it in the bins provided.”

The clean up operation is covering both sides of the dual carriageway from the M25 roundabout at Kings Langley right up to the Icknield Way junction at Tring.

Outside contactors have been brought in to manage the traffic during the blitz.

The council carries out two litter picks along the busy road each year - at the end of the winter and mid-way through the summer. If the budget stretches far enough sometimes a third clean-up is carried out.
